August 7, 2008                           St. Anthony Sandbar

Approximately 1:15-1:20 P.M., St. Anthony Sheriff’s department was notified of a missing boy last seen in the water downstream from the sandbar near Keefer Park in St. Anthony, Idaho.  90 minutes later, Fremont Country Search and Rescue was requested to assist with a possible drowning at the sandbar.  Fremont County Search and Rescue commander called Richard Smith from Rexburg to assist with his helicopter to help locate the missing boy. The unit responded with 4 divers and a jet boat, and additional jet boats were requested but unavailable. The young man’s body was located with the use of a power parachute, and Search and Rescue divers were then able to recover the body.  Thoughts and prayers go out to all family and friends.

A motorcyclist ran off the road up near Bear Gulch & was later airlifted to the hospital.
