Feb. 2009 Searches Feb. 02, 2009 Lion's Head Monday afternoon at 1:24 P.M., Twenty Members of the Fremont County Search & Rescue was paged out for a young Canadian man who set off his Personal Locator Beacon in the Targhee Creek area of Island Park. A team of searchers snowmobiled towards the coordinates provided by the Locator Beacon Monitoring Company. Around 2:57 P.M. the team located the group that the individual was with. He stated that his snowmobile had become stuck and he pushed the distress button to inform the rest of his party of his situation. The Locator Beacon Monitoring Company was called and informed that the individual was ok. Seventeen members of the West Yellowstone Search & Rescue assisted on this search. Feb. 11, 2009 #1 Black Canyon Around 10:45a.m. Wednesday morning, Fremont County Search & Rescue was called out to assist Island Park Ambulance in retrieving a 60 year old Virginia woman who wrecked on her snowmobile on the Black Canyon Trail in Island Park. The snowmobile left the trail, went down into a steep ravine and hit a rock and a tree. She sustained numerous injuries. She was transported out of the back country on a Med Sled and taken to the hospital by Madison County's ALS team.
#2 Two Top Shortly after the response to the Snowmobile accident, there was a report of an avalanche on Two Top near Island Park. A man was buried and dug out by his snowmobile group. He complained of back pain and sustained facial lacerations. West Yellowstone Search & Rescue assisted in retrieving this individual from the back country.
