2013-11-16 Stranded Trapper Near Black Canyon Road
Saturday evening at 5:50 p.m., Fremont County Search & Rescue (FCSAR) was paged out to Island Park a report of a 45 year old trapper from Idaho Falls, whose ATV had broken down ten miles from his camp. He told Fremont County Dispatch he was walking toward his camp near Moose Creek. Several FCSAR Members responded to the Black Canyon area with snowmobiles and ATVs. FCSAR commander made contact with the trapper on his cell phone and had him call 911 so Fremont Dispatch could acquire a GPS coordinate through their 911 system. Around 7:45 p.m., the trapper was located near the Black Canyon Road about twelve miles from the warming hut. The trapper appeared to be in good shape and walking towards Moose Creek. He was given a ride back to his camp via snowmobile.
