March 11, 2006                                                   Red Road

2:30 a.m. Fremont County Search and Rescue members quickly responded to rescue 2 stranded motorists marooned on the Red Road, northwest of St. Anthony, Idaho.  The two traveled the road 9.3 miles beyond the plowed area, high centering their vehicle, and obviously powerless to return to their residence in Rexburg. Temperatures hovering 0 degrees caused concern for rescue members. After rescue members arrived, they determined it was impossible to free the vehicle, necessitating transporting them by snowmobile.  Because the couple was not wearing clothes suitable to travel via snow machine, additional rescue members provided them with snowmobile clothing and boots to keep them warm during their journey back to civilization.  The couple was safely taken to their residence.
